DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\nI’ll discuss the future of human computer interfa
ce with particular attention to some of the new and emerging display techn
ologies for 3D\, augmented reality\, and wearable applications. I’ll pre
sent our work on MEMS laser scanners\, transparent screens based on microl
ens arrays\, and various display technologies including pico-projectors\,
 stereoscopic\, auto-stereoscopic\, and multi-view displays\, and head-moun
ted projection displays. \n\nBiography:\nHakan Urey is a Professor of Elec
trical Engineering at Koç University in Istanbul-Turkey. He is currently
a visiting Professor at Cavendish Lab\, Cambridge University\, UK. He rece
ived the BS degree from Middle East Technical University\, Ankara\, in 199
2\, and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996
and in 1997\, all in Electrical Engineering. After completing his PhD\, he
joined Microvision Inc.\, in Seattle area and played a key role in the de
velopment of MEMS and micro-optics technologies for Laser Scanning Display
 s. He was the Principal System Engineer when he left Microvision in 2001 t
o join the faculty of engineering at Koç University\, where he establishe
d the Optical Microsystems Research Laboratory (OML). His current research
projects are in the areas os wearable and 3D displays\, micro-optical scr
een technologies\, MEMS scanners\, MEMS biosensors\, MEMS thermal imaging
sensor arrays\, and MEMS spectrometers.\n\nHe has more than 30 issued and
pending patents\, which have been licensed by 5 different companies for co
mmercialization. He published 7 edited books\, 4 book chapters\, and more
than 150 journal and conference papers. He received the Werner Von Siemen
s faculty excellence award in 2006\, TÜBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences) D
istinguished Young Scientist award in 2007\, Encouragement award from the
Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council (TUBITAK) in 2009\, Outs
tanding Faculty award from Koc University in 2013\, and European Research
Council Advanced Grant (ERC-AdG) in 2013 to develop next generation wearab
 le and 3D display technologies.\n
