DESCRIPTION:Turbulence produced by a towed-grid in liquid 4He at very low
temperatures\nis predicted to decay not by viscous losses\, as occurs when
there is\nmutual friction between the superfluid and normal fluid\, but b
y phonon\nradiation when the energy flows into smaller length scales by a
kind of\nKelvin-wave cascade on the quantized vortex lines making up the\n
turbulence. Great efforts have been expended to create and detect\nturbul
ence in helium at very low temperatures. This talk will concentrate\non t
he progress made\, especially in the design and construction of\nsupercond
ucting actuators and small temperature and pressure sensors.\nSome results
with a vibrating grid may be presented.
