DESCRIPTION:In this talk we discuss the  distribution of extreme events fo
 r a\nchaotic dynamical system for a general class of observables. More\npr
 ecisely\, we link directly the distribution of events over threshold\nto t
 he local geometrical structure on the surface\nof the attractor.  It is sh
 own how this can provide us with information about the local stable\nand u
 nstable dimensions. Using Ruelle's response theory\, we discuss\nthe sensi
 tivity of the parameters of the distribution under\nperturbations. This is
  a joint work with Vlaerio Lucarini\, Davide\nFaranda and Jeroen Wouters.\
