DESCRIPTION:In over half a century\, what have we learned about education\
, about schools as places for education\, about learning and teaching and
the relationship between them? What have we learned about policy-making an
d the policy process? Has the growing impact of globalisation informed or
constrained radical change?\n\nWritten in an easily accessible style\, and
drawing on the author’s personal experiences of working in education as
teacher\, researcher\, government adviser and consultant with internation
al agencies\, each chapter of the book illuminates deeper lying issues abo
ut the nature of schooling\, learning\, leadership\, research\, and the im
pact of globalisation on the lives of schools\, teachers\, children and fa
milies.\n\nAt the talk\, there will be readings from the book\, including
passages censored to protect the guilty. Selected heresies will include:\n
\n* Policy making as member of Tony Blair’s Standards Task Force.\n* A
hint of royal scandal as a one time adviser to HRH Prince Charles and Kin
g Gustav of Sweden.\n* Govian follies.\n* A rude reception at the Tory P
arty Conference.\n* A devilish encounter in Santiago.\n* Tetraphobia in
Hong Kong.\n* Expelled! Why schooling was a gap in his education.\n\nAll
