SUMMARY:Sparsity constrained inverse problems and applications in MALDI Im
aging - Peter Maass (University of Bremen)

DESCRIPTION:Since Daubechies\, Defrise and De Mol published their pioneeri
ng paper on sparsity constrained inverse problems in 2004\, this topic has
been the dominant theme in this field of applied analysis.\nWe will revi
ew the basic ideas of this approach and discuss its extensions to non-line
ar problems.\n\nThe second part of the talk is devoted to applications in
PDE based image processing and MALDI Imaging. MALDI imaging\, which is an
emerging hyperspectral technology in biomedical/pharmaceutical research\,
poses several mathematical challenges (structured denoising\, clustering).
Results from real data demonstrate the potential of sparsity based approa
 ches in this field.
