DESCRIPTION:In the UK\, there are seven Research Councils\, which are the 
 funding bodies \nresponsible for investing UK public money in research and
  related training schemes\, infrastructures and research centres. Come alo
 ng and find out about the variety of careers available at the Research Cou
 ncils in the UK\, as well as at their overseas office in Brussels\, China\
 , India and the USA. There are around 1\,200 staff working at the Research
  Council headquarters in Swindon and many more at their institutes and cen
 tres across the UK and further afield. Together they support over 50\,000 
 researchers. \n\nJo will also talk about her experiences working both in t
 he UK and at the         Research Council’s Office in Brussels (UKRO) on
  research funding and policy. Jo has spent over ten years working for the 
 UK Research Councils. Jo worked at the UK’s Natural Environment Research
  Council (NERC) for 3 years as a  Science Programmes Officer. She was invo
 lved in designing and managing peer review processes\, and working togethe
 r with the other UK Research  Councils on various projects. Jo then spent 
 7 years working at the UK Research Office (UKRO) in Brussels\, undertaking
  policy work related to EU research  funding with the UK Government and EU
 \, as well as advising researchers and research support staff at research 
 centres and universities.\n
