DESCRIPTION:*‘Idiot!’* is one of those rare crossover picturebooks tha
t challenges textual and visual conventions and the received wisdom of app
ropriate content. Its ludic qualities\, irony\, intertextuality and indete
rminacy place it firmly in the postmodern picturebook camp. \nWith the hel
p of some bright minds and a translation\, I’d like to deconstruct this
book to see how a synergy of text and image is achieved by this Danish tea
m of two\; and to examine complex issues within this book such as infantic
ide\, the passing of time and concepts of the afterlife.\n\n*Howard Cotton
 * worked as a primary school teacher for many years in schools in Devon. H
e has also worked abroad for several years in schools and universities in
France and Chile. He now teaches on the BEd programme at Plymouth Universi
ty. He is completing his PhD in postmodern picturebooks and their use as a
  pedagogical medium.\n
