DESCRIPTION:Color in nature is everywhere: animals and plants develop stru
 ctures on sub-micron scale to manipulate light and to obtain brilliant and
  iridescent colors. This structural coloration arises from various mechani
 sms\, including multilayered materials\, crystalline inclusions and surfac
 e diffraction gratings. In this talk Dr Vignolini will describe examples o
 f photonic structures in nature and how those concepts can be easily imple
 mented for general photonic applications.\n\nThe talk is *free* for CUPS m
