DESCRIPTION:In the paper “A framework for understanding energy pile beha
 viour”\, the authors outline a simple schematic description of the expec
 ted response of a pile to heating and cooling which was used to understand
  the results of field tests on thermally-activated piles.\nThis presentati
 on draws on the framework proposed in the paper and the results of more re
 cent studies to explore the limits of its applicability\, in particular it
 s inability to capture the impact of thermal interactions that also affect
  the changes in pile axial load and mobilized shaft resistance generated b
 y thermal loading of the pile. \n
