DESCRIPTION:In recent years there has been a renewed interest in higher sp
 in gravity. These theories have the potential to be the simplest models of
  AdS/CFT\, and hence can provide insight to the fundamental mechanics behi
 nd holography. In this talk I'll overview recent progress on non-perturbat
 ive aspects of these theories with particular emphasis on black holes and 
 its associated thermodynamics. We will also discuss issues related to holo
 graphic entanglement entropy and the Hawking-Page phase transitions as int
 eresting applications of these new developments.
