DESCRIPTION:The spread of genes that confer insect’s resistance to paras
ites depends on the fitness costs it may impose. In the presence of the pa
rasite\, it is likely that the resistant individuals will be favoured over
susceptible ones. But in the absence of the parasite a resistant genotyp
e will only be favoured if having a mounted immune system is not very cos
tly. We used the mosquito Aedes aegypti and the filarial nematode Brugia
malayi as a model system to investigate costs of resistance and costs of
 infection.
