DESCRIPTION:Morphological integration within population results from the w
ay structures develop\, and it affects evolution because it determines how
easily different combinations of traits can evolve. Integration can be ch
aracterised and quantified with morphometric methods. Most studies of inte
gration have focused on single populations or species\, but comparisons ac
ross multiple species are increasingly common\, so that it is possible to
examine how integration affects evolution of traits and how integration it
self evolves. This seminar will present some of the possibilities and prob
lems of these studies. Examples will include Drosophila wings and mammal s
 kulls.
