DESCRIPTION:The term "Africa Rising" is one the world is increasingly fami
liar with. The investment story\, driven by young populations\, growing co
nsumer markets and unprecedented growth rates\, has got international busi
ness especially excited. Investment levels are soaring\, and there is a pa
lpable sense of optimism that Africa may have\, finally\, turned a corner.
\n\nDespite strong reasons for this optimism\, doing business in the cont
inent's economies continues to be a profoundly challenging and sobering re
ality for firms eager to tap into its success\, from large multinationals\
, to homegrown companies and innovative start-ups. With murmurings of an u
pswing in Western economies this year\, the need for vigilance and nuance
in understanding the African business landscape is as high as ever. The pr
esentation will provide a critical\, but constructive assessment of the "A
frica Rising" narrative from a business perspective.
