DESCRIPTION:The dynamics of a fluid film advancing over a plane is often s
ensitively controlled by surface tension. This dictates the spreading rate
of a drop\nand leads to the fingering of a falling film. In this talk I w
ill describe some related situations in which surface tension competes wit
h a non-Newtonian fluid rheology or is replaced by the stresses of an elas
 tic surface.
