DESCRIPTION:We describe the propagation of volcanic intrusions driven by b
 uoyancy and influenced by wind. The framework will allow accurate forecast
 ing of the  spreading rate of future volcanic ash clouds\, of central impo
 rtance to aviation safety.  The presentation will be illustrated by colour
  displays of real eruptions and simple desk-top experiments.
