DESCRIPTION:Nature provides a wide selection of polymers with attractive c
haracteristics and surfaces with different capabilities. Biopolymers deriv
ed from natural sources\, such as chitosan\, silk\, alginate and cellulose
\, offer remarkable advantages in terms of biocompatibility\, biodegradabi
lity and environmentally friendliness. We demonstrated the production of b
ioinspired coatings with self cleaning and low friction properties\, algin
ate architectures with anisotropic chemical character\, electrospun scaffo
lds with antibacterial activity and enhanced cells adhesion\, microfluidic
devices for testing food quality\, water-repellent paper for smart food p
ackaging. The realized systems are of interest for applications that inclu
de biomedical devices\, tissue engineering\, drug and pesticides delivery\
, food safety\, water cleaning\, filters and smart textiles.
