DESCRIPTION:In today's health system\, where the NHS is planning to sequen
ce 100\,000 people by 2017\, it is expected that most of the UK population
will be sequenced by the 2020's. Using a credit card and an Internet conn
ection\, my family underwent the journey of sequencing our personal genome
s\, perhaps simulating the scenario of any family in the future. We decide
d to publish all our genetic data on the Internet requesting scientists an
d hobbyists alike to give us feedback any interesting results. In this pre
sentation I will briefly summarise many of the results we got from the com
munity\, plus some other personal investigations. My talk will not only pr
ovide a state-of-the-art overview of how much we can really understand tod
ay about our personal genomes\, I also discuss briefly some challenging qu
estions pertaining to genome privacy and the right not to know.
