DESCRIPTION:The positions of the planets\, ancient human writings\, and bu
s queuing behaviour are all instances of evidence. (So are spotty tongues\
, hygrometer readouts\, and fresh dung.) What unites them? Is it the relat
ions each have to something else\; to claims\, perspectives\, or theories?
Is it how we use them? Can they really all be the same thing? The focus
of our discussion will be on the enormous variety of things ordinarily cla
ssed as evidence\, how to even begin thinking about the question of what e
vidence is\, and what a general theory might hope to achieve.
