DESCRIPTION:Modern synthesis methods allow for obtaining colloidal nano- a
 nd microparticles with highly defined properties. With these particles det
 ailed studies about their interaction with the environment are possible. T
 his will be described for the cases of adsorption of counter ions and prot
 eins [1\, 2] and impact on interaction with cells will be discussed [3\, 4
