DESCRIPTION:Tumor cells are highly glycolytic and depend on glucose for su
rvival. Our laboratory is trying to understand how cells die when they lac
k glucose or when they are treated with 2-deoxyglucose\, a non-metabolizab
le glucose analog. I will give an overview of work in our lab regarding th
e differences in cell death mechanisms induced by these treatments. I will
also discuss the role of autophagy as a protective mechanism against sele
ctive nutrient deprivation or anti-metabolic treatments.
