DESCRIPTION:A cylinder in a Fano variety is an open ruled affine subset\nw
 hose complement is a support of an effective anticanonical Q-divisor.\nThi
 s notion links together affine\, birational and Kahler geometries.\nI will
  show how to prove existence and non-existence of cylinders\nin smooth and
  mildly singular del Pezzo surfaces.\nIn particular\, I will answer an old
  question of Zaidenberg and Flenner\nabout additive group actions on the c
