DESCRIPTION:This term\, Professor Charlie F Kennel is a Visiting Research 
 Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) and he will d
 eliver a series of seminars on adaptation to climate change\, hosted by Ch
 rist’s College.\n\nThis 6 week series is designed for a general audience
  and will take place on Thursdays between 5.30pm and 7pm. Each week\, ther
 e will be a lecture followed by questions and a drinks reception.\n\n*Semi
 nar 3*\n\nIn the third talk in the series\, Professor Kennel will discuss 
 the reasons why we may not be able to avoid 2C warming by 2050\, and appro

 ecutive Vice Chancellor of UCLA \, its chief academic officer. In the 1990
 s he was Associate Administrator at NASA and Director of Mission to Planet
  Earth\, the world’s largest Earth science program. Kennel’s experienc
 es at NASA convinced him of the growing importance of Earth and environmen
 tal science\, and he decided to devote the rest of his career to these and
  related fields. He became the ninth Director of Scripps Institution of Oc
 eanography and Vice Chancellor of Marine Sciences at the University of Cal
 ifornia\, San Diego\, serving from 1998 to 2006\, and was the founding dir
 ector of the UCSD Environment and Sustainability Initiative. He was the 20
 07 C.P. Snow lecturer at Christ’s College and is now a Distinguished Vis
 iting Fellow there. He chairs the board of the California Council on Scien
 ce and Technology and the Space Studies Board of the US National Academy o
 f Sciences. His present interests include global climate change\, environm
 ental and marine biological science\, coastal science and monitoring\, oce
 an science and policy\, management of interdisciplinary science.
