DESCRIPTION:*Inaugural Lecture of Professor Mathematical Physics (1967)*\n
\nThe history of the Universe is both fascinating and challenging. Observa
tions suggest that the Universe is undergoing a period of accelerated expa
nsion. In this lecture I will give an overview of the history of the Unive
rse and how it is thought to have evolved over billions of years. I will c
onsider possible explanations of the current accelerated expansion. In par
ticular I will discuss theories which extend gravity and introduce an extr
a force. These theories can be tested in the laboratory and cosmologically
 .
