SUMMARY: A Three-Parameter Kinematic Theory for the Shear Behaviour of Con
tinuous Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams - Evan Bentz\, Associate Professor

DESCRIPTION:Recent work at the University of Toronto has resulted in a new
theory for the shear strength and deformation patterns of cracked reinfor
ced concrete deep beams both simply supported and continuous. The primary
author of this theory is Dr. Boyan Mihaylov\, recently a post-doc in Tor
onto and who now teaches at the University of Liege in Belgium. The basic
s of the theory will be presented\, detailed comparisons made to experimen
ts and finally some interesting consequences of the theory will be explore
 d. This theory attempts to provide an answer to the question of what the
appropriate strain profiles in a beam will be when the well-known "plane s
ections remains plane" theory breaks down.\n
