DESCRIPTION:Using numerical simulations of rotating Boussinesq convection
in a Cartesian box\, we study the formation of long-lived\, large-scale\,
depth-invariant vortices. These vortices\, which are always cyclonic in th
e explored parameter range\, grow to the largest horizontal size permitted
in the computational domain. We will first discuss the domain of existenc
e of these vortices\, the possible mechanisms by which they form\, and how
they affect the flow of heat through the system. In the second part of th
is talk\, we will describe how they interact with self-sustained magnetic
 field.
