 ngage a diverse panoply of specialized gut endocrine cells\, initiating th
 e secretion of dozens of enteroendocrine hormones. These peptide messenger
 s coordinate diverse physiological processes encompassing gut motility\, d
 igestive enzyme secretion\, regulation of mucosal epithelial integrity\, n
 utrient absorption\, and disposal. This lecture will review key insights f
 rom basic and clinical science\, challenges\, and future opportunities tha
 t derive from understanding the therapeutic potential of the enteroendocri
 ne L cell.\n\n\n
