DESCRIPTION:We prove some ergodic-theoretic rigidity properties of the act
 ion of\nSL(2\; R) on the moduli space of compact Riemann surfaces. In\npar
 ticular\, we show that any ergodic measure invariant under the\naction of 
 the upper triangular subgroup of SL(2\; R) is supported on an\ninvariant a
  ffine submanifold. The main theorems are inspired by the\nresults of seve
 ral authors on unipotent flows on homogeneous spaces\,\nand in particular 
 by Ratner's seminal work. This is joint work with\nMaryam Mirzakhani and A
 mir Mohammadi.\n
