DESCRIPTION:Nearly all large-scale geophysical flows are turbulent\, while
being subject a strong background rotation and/or stratification. This ro
tation or stratification allows an incompressible fluid to sustain interna
l wave motion\, maintained by the Coriolis and buoyancy forces. Thus large
-scale geophysical flows are characterised by the interplay between waves
and turbulence. In particular the waves organise and shape the turbulence
by dispersing energy in the form of wave packets. In this talk I focus on
 the case of rotating turbulence.
