DESCRIPTION:In this talk we will start with several mathematical challenge
 s\nand fundamental issues we have to face for solving nonlinear hyperbolic
 \nconservation laws. Then we will analyse a class of weakly differentiable
 \nvector fields\, called divergence-measure fields\, and its natural conne
 ction with entropy solutions for hyperbolic conservation laws.\nIn particu
 lar\, we will discuss some recent efforts to establish a theory\nof diverg
 ence-measure fields toward developing analytical frameworks\nfor studying 
 entropy solutions of multidimensional hyperbolic conservation laws. Furthe
 r connections\, trends\, and open problems in this direction will be also 
 addressed.
