 ine Leyser is Professor of Plant Development and Director of the Sainsbury
  Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses in unders
 tanding how plants adapt their growth and development according to the env
 ironment in which they are growing. In particular she is interested in how
  plants balance and rebalance growth across their shoot systems and betwee
 n their shoots and roots in response to changing nutrient availability. \n
 \nProfessor Leyser received her BA (1986) and PhD (1990) in Genetics from 
 the University of Cambridge. After a period of post-doctoral research at I
 ndiana University\, she returned to the UK and took up a Lectureship at th
 e University of York (1994)\, where worked until moving to the Sainsbury L
 aboratory\, University of Cambridge\, in 2011. She is a Fellow of the Roya
 l Society\, a Member of EMBO and a Foreign Associate of the US National Ac
 ademy of Sciences. She was awarded a CBE in the 2009 New Year Honours list
 . \n\nProfessor Leyser’s personal interests include equality and diversi
 ty in science and influences on research culture. She is currently chair o
 f the Athena Forum and has previously published a book\, “Mothers in Sci
 ence: 64 ways to have it all.” She is also Deputy Chair of the Nuffield
