SUMMARY:Catalytic Atom Transfer and Bond Activation Methods Based on P(III
)↔P(V) Cycling - Professor Alex Radosevich\, Penn State University\, USA

DESCRIPTION:My research group is invested in the discovery of phosphorus-b
ased catalysts that make and break bonds via two-electron changes in forma
l oxidation state. By enforcing non-VSEPR geometries on P(III) compounds\,
we attempt to create structural and electronic conditions that facilitate
cycling in the P(III)⇌P(V) redox couple. This approach has resulted in
the development of diverse atom transfer and bond activation methods catal
yzed by inexpensive\, nonmetal phosphorus compounds. The synthetic and mec
hanistic aspects of these reactions and their connection to other metal-ba
sed catalytic methods will be described.
