DESCRIPTION:We study the trapping of a liquid between a pair of horizontal
  cylinders\, as the first step towards the detailed understanding of the t
 rapping properties of a porous medium. The shape of the trapped liquid has
  to satisfy the Laplace-Young equation. By means of an analytical solution
  to this nonlinear differential equation\, we determine the shape of the t
 rapped droplet and determine the physical parameters that maximize the tra
 pped volume. Our results show that for small cylinders\, the largest trapp
 ing occurs when the distance between the cylinders is equal to the capilla
 ry length. We also verify our analytical results using experiments and sim
 pler asymptotic solutions.
