DESCRIPTION:Join Dr Ewan St John Smith where he will take you into the wor
ld of the unusual physiology of the naked mole-rat\, an animal that is col
d-blooded\, lives for 30+ years\, is resistant to cancer and is also eusoc
ial! By identifying molecules and circuits that underlie aspects of their
“odd” physiology\, results from such work will lead to a greater under
standing of how “normal” physiology works in other mammals including h
umans. \n\nCambridge Cafe Scientifique events aim to provide a relaxed opp
ortunity to discuss the science that is changing our lives\, with the scie
ntists themselves. A short informal talk is given by a scientist who is an
expert on the topic to give background and to set the scene\, and this is
followed by questions and discussion. Cambridge Cafe Scientifique is spon
sored by the Medical Research Council. Talks are free and refreshments are
  provided.
