DESCRIPTION:We propose a novel approach that automatically converts trimme
d NURBS surfaces to Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces with Bezier edge co
nditions. The main idea is to first construct the topology of the base mes
h for subdivision by performing cross-field based decomposition in the par
ameter space. The control point positions are then calculated by inverting
a linear system built from limit stencils and cross-boundary continuity c
onstraints. Our method achieves the conversion within a specified toleranc
e and maintains the tangential continuity of adjacent trimmed surfaces. We
will also consider the extensions of converting to non-uniform subdivisio
n surfaces and keeping exactly the original cross-boundary continuity.
