SUMMARY:I spy with my MRI.... - Dr Mick Mantle\, Department of Chemical En
 gineering and Biotechnology
DTSTART:20140613T171500Z
DTEND:20140613T181500Z
UID:TALK51169@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:Dr Karyn Megy
DESCRIPTION:Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is now routinely used in most
hospitals as a clinical diagnostic tool. However\, there are many non-me
dical applications of MRI that have real life applications. The talk will
introduce the principles behind the technique and outline some of the mor
e exotic and/or unusual uses of MRI. Highlights will include snapshots of
the use of MRI in the food industry where we have examined Kit-KatTM wafe
rs\, food foams\, and followed the dynamics of the food marinating process
in Chicken Tikka. The talk will also focus on how it is now possible to
“image”\, non-invasively\, industrially relevant chemical reactions un
der operando (high temperature/high pressure conditions) which is changing
the way we think about industrial chemical processes and design.
