DESCRIPTION:The fly visual system is particularly important as an analysab
le and testable archetype\, not only for invertebrate perception\, but als
o for more generalised sensing. The research presented here investigates t
he limits on the accuracy with which flies can see in order to determine t
he main causes of image degradation in the early visual system. Insights i
nto invertebrate vision accuracy can potentially revolutionise the archite
cture and algorithms for artificial perceptual systems in robots and other
  devices.
