  project focused on modern economics and finance\, mostly in the US. Mary 
 Poovey will discuss the argument of the book she and Kevin R Brine are com
 pleting\, A Modern Way of Knowing: Studies in the History of Financial Mod
 eling\, and she will examine the risks and rewards of this intellectual sw
