DESCRIPTION:Celebrated Russian film director Marina Razbezhkina will offer
  a series of public  Master Classes on documentary filmmaking in the Winst
 anley Theatre\, Trinity College\, on the following dates:\n\nMASTER CLASS 
 I:  Saturday\, 1 MARCH\, 2:30-5:30 pm\n\nMASTER CLASS II:  Friday\, 7  MAR
 CH\,  7:00-10:00 pm\n\nEach Master Class will introduce audiences to recen
 t developments in Russian documentary film practice through the screening 
 and discussion of a series of recent films from independent Russian filmma
 kers.   Many of the films to be screened in this series were directed by s
 tudents from the Moscow School of Documentary Film and Theatre\, of which 
 Razbezhkina is director and co-founder.  The Master Classes are conceived 
 as introductions to both the theory and the practice of documentary filmma
 king. They will also offer intimate and unique insights into Russian life 
 and culture in the 21t century.  All films are subtitled in English. Razbe
 zhkina will speak in Russian with English translation.\n\nMarina Razbezhki
 na's visit is sponsored by the Department of Slavonic Studies\, Trinity Co
 llege and the Russkii Mir Foundation (Moscow).\n\nMarina Razbezhkina has w
 ritten and directed over  40 documentary films  and participated in compet
 ition or as a member of the jury at over 55 film international festivals. 
  Razbezhkina’s documentaries include «House” (1990)\, “Love Him in 
 Your Heart” (1990)\, “Dancing Hall” (1990)\, “The End of the Journ
 ey” (1991)\, “Listeners’ Choice Concert” (1991)\,  “A Man Plays 
 the Trumpet” (1994)\, “Strange Freedom of Being” (1995)\, “Heirs o
 f Paradise” (1997)\, “Slavonic Dances” (1999)\, “I Feel It Is Time
  to Say Good-Bye” (2000)\, “Gennady Aigy” (2001)\, “Life Is a Boot
  without a Pair” (2001)\, “Underground” (2001)\, “Desire to Sing
 ” (2001)\, “Just Life” (2002)\, “Looking Ground” (2002)\, “The
  Story of my Family” (2003)\, “A Foreign Country” (2004)\, “Vacati
 on” (2005)\, “The Weather Is Fine” (2010)\, “People Deer Bogs” (
 2011)\, «Optical Axis» (2013).\n\nIn 2004 Razbezhkina made her first fea
 ture film “Harvest Time” which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Moscow In
 ternational Film Festival in 2004. This film was screened at more than 50 
 international festivals and won prizes in Chicago\, Thessaloniki\, Taipei\
 , Jeonju and many other festivals. It was nominated for the Fassbinder Awa
 rd of the European Film Academy.  Her second feature film\, “Ravine”\,
  an adaptation of Sergei Esenin's story of the same name\, was released in
  2007.   \n\nRazbezhkina has lectured on the  theory and history of visual
  culture at Kazan University (1992-1998) and taught documentary filmmaking
  at the Internews School of Journalism (2004-2005\, Moscow). In 2008  Razb
 ezhkina founded the School of Documentary Film and Documentary Theatre (Mo
 scow)\, together with Mikhail Ugarov\, artistic director of Moscow's Teatr
 .doc.   In 2012 students of the school were commissioned by the newspaper 
 'Novaia Gazeta' to  make a documentary about the Russian protest movement\
 , 'Winter\, Go Away!'.    Produced by Razbezhkina\, this film was screened
  at over 12 international festivals and throughout Russia\, picking up mul
 tiple nominations and several prizes for 'best debut' and 'best documentar
 y film of the year'.
