DESCRIPTION:Celebrated Russian film director MARINA RAZBEZHKINA offers a p
 ublic  Master Class on documentary filmmaking in the Winstanley Theatre\, 
 Trinity College\, on\n\nFriday\, 7  MARCH\,  7:00-10:00 pm\n\nThe  Master 
 Class will introduce audiences to recent developments in Russian documenta
 ry film practice through the screening and discussion of a series of recen
 t films from independent Russian filmmakers.   Many of the films to be scr
 eened in this series were directed by students from the Moscow School of D
 ocumentary Film and Theatre of which Razbezhkina is director and co-founde
 r.  The Master Classes will explore Russian innovations in documentary the
 ory and practice.  It will also offer intimate and unique insights into Ru
 ssian life and culture in the 21t century.  All films are subtitled in Eng
 lish. Razbezhkina will speak in Russian with English translation.\n\nMs Ra
 zbezhkina's visit is sponsored by the Department of Slavonic Studies\, Tri
 nity College and the Russkii Mir Foundation.\n\n\nRazbezhkina has lectured
  on the  theory and history of visual culture at Kazan University (1992-19
 98) and taught documentary filmmaking at the Internews School of Journalis
 m (2004-2005\, Moscow). In 2008  Razbezhkina founded the School of Documen
 tary Film and Documentary Theatre (Moscow)\, together with Mikhail Ugarov\
 , artistic director of Moscow's Teatr.doc.   In 2012 students of the schoo
 l were commissioned by the newspaper 'Novaia Gazeta' to  make a documentar
 y about the Russian protest movement\, 'Winter\, Go Away!'.    Produced by
  Razbezhkina\, this film was screened at over 12 international festivals a
 nd throughout Russia\, picking up multiple nominations and several prizes 
 for 'best debut' and 'best documentary film of the year'.
