DESCRIPTION:The Solaris project aims to detect from the ground circumbinar
y planets\nwith the timing of eclipses\nof eclipsing binary stars. For the
Solaris project\, we were granted 2.5\nmillion Euro to establish\na netwo
rk of four robotic 0.5-m telescopes on three continents\n(Australia\, Afri
ca and South America)\nto carry out high cadence\, high precision photomet
ry of a sample of\neclipsing binary stars. The last telescope was successf
ully installed\nin Argentina In December 2013 and the entire network will
soon start regular observing.\nThe project's web site is www.projectsolari
s.eu/.\n\nThis effort is accompanied by our radial velocity (RV) survey fo
r\ncircumbinary planets which employs\nour novel iodine cell based techniq
ue tailored to provide very high\nprecision RVs of\ndouble-lined binaries.
Altogether these two efforts\, targeting about 300\neclipsing binary star
s\,\nconstitute the biggest ground based survey for circumbinary planets.\
n\nMoreover\, we expect that both these efforts will have a significant im
pact\non the observational stellar\nastronomy. In particular for at least
half of our sample we expect to\ndeliver masses of\nthe stars with an accu
racy 10-1000 times better than the current state of\nthe art.
