DESCRIPTION:Plants contain by far more ABC transporters than animals and h
umans. It is assumed that this is due to the fact\, that plants are sessil
e organisms and have to adapt to the changing environmental conditions wit
hout being able to escape from a non-favorable environment. Indeed several
ABC transporters have been shown to be involved in cellular detoxificatio
n\, as already observed in animals and fungi. More surprising was the fact
that in plants ABC transporters play a central role in phytohormone trans
port. The first phytohormone shown to be transported by an ABC protein was
auxin. In subsequent studies we could show that members of the ABCG subfa
mily act also as transporters for abscisic acid\, strigolactones and cytok
inins. In my talk I will summarize published results and give new insights
in the transport of abscisic acid\, strigolactone and cytokinins.
