DESCRIPTION:A three day event discussing aspects of the innate immune syst
em. \n\nThis year there are three main topics for discussion:-\n\nThe Inna
te Immunity Interactions with Pathogens \nInteractions of the Innate and A
daptive Immune Systems\nTherapeutic applications of the Innate Immune syst
em\nWith plenty of opportunity for networking and debate\, this informal
international meeting will bring you up to date with current research and
thinking regarding an organisms first line of defense.\n\nWho Should Atte
nd: Academic and biotechnology/biopharma research professionals interested
in function and potency of immune response components against pathogens a
nd tumours\; also scientists interested in how understa nding these mechan
isms can inform the design of biological therapeutics and their mechanisms
of action \, with translational implications for therapy. \n\nThis event
has an open poster session. Posters can be submitted on any subject relat
ed to Innate Immunity\n\nThis event has CPD accreditation. \n\nThe deadlin
e for abstract submissions for oral presentation is July 10th 2014. Abstra
cts for poster presentation only can be submitted up to two weeks before t
he event. You can download the instructions for authors at: www.euroscicon
 .com/ABSTRACTSUBMISSIONS.pdf\n\nProgram Outline\n\nDay 1: Innate Immunity
Interactions with Pathogens\nInfectious disease are still a major cause o
f morbidity and mortality worldwide. Innate immunity is of paramount impor
tance for the control of pathogens in the early stages of the infection an
d for the engenderment and expansion of acquired immunity. This will be a
premier forum for the presentation of cutting-edge research on how the int
eraction between innate immune mechanisms and pathogens impacts on host re
 sistance\, immunoevasion\, immunodeficiencies and vaccine efficacy\, provi
ding a deep insight into future research and more rational measures to p
revent and treat infectious diseases of humans and animals. Session Chair
 : Dr Pietro Mastroeni\, Cambridge University\, UK \n\nDay 2: Investigati
ng interactions of the Innate and Adaptive Immune Systems\nThe cells of th
e innate immune system play a crucial part in immune defense against disea
se but also respond to the presence of malignant cells\, initiating and su
bsequently directing adaptive immune responses. The session will discuss t
he roles of different components of the innate immune system\, with focus
on disease mechanisms and interactions between inflammatory cells\, antibo
dies and pathogenic or tumour antigens and how these impact on disease pro
gression. The session will draw on new cutting edge research and will prov
ide ample opportunity for networking and informal discussions. \nSession C
hair: Dr Sophia N. Karagiannis\, Senior Lecturer in Translational Cancer
Immunology\, Head of Cancer Antibody Discovery and Immunotherapy\, St John
’s Institute of Dermatology\, Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicin
 e\, King’s College London School of Medicine\, UK\n\nDay 3: Therapeutic
applications of the Innate Immune system\nThe identification of antigen r
ecognition receptors for innate immunity has sparked great interest in the
rapeutic manipulation of the innate immune system. For example Toll-like r
eceptor agonists are being developed for the treatment of cancer\, allergi
es and viral infections\, and as adjuvants for cancer and disease vaccines
. This session will explore current research and applications of the inna
te system for therapeutic applications. There will be plenty of opportunit
y for discussion and debate and we encourage submission of abstracts for b
oth oral and poster presentation. Session Chair: To be confirmed
