DESCRIPTION:In this seminar I will review progress with the themes that ha
 ve been pursued in recent years in relation to cancer diagnosis. I will ar
 gue that we are at an important juncture from several perspectives\, in ou
 r conceptualisation of the problem\, in the type of research that will be 
 undertaken in future\, and in the directions that might have greatest shor
 t and long term impact. Lastly I will consider the extent to which researc
 h on cancer diagnosis might be generalisable to other clinical areas. \nMy
  intention is to stimulate wide-ranging  debate and discussion\, and so am
 ple time will be allowed for this.
