DESCRIPTION:The Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope is an instrumen
t that is\nwell-suited to in situ study of dynamic processes. This talk d
iscusses\nthe design and development of a micromanipulation system attache
d to a\nheating stage. The design of the system is challenging as the\npi
ezoelectric transducers in the micromanipulator system do not operate\nabo
ve temperatures exceeding 90C. The design of the stage has been\nanalyzed
by finite element methods and then verified by experimental\ntesting. Re
sults are presented of heating and combined heating and\nmicromanipulation
experiments on a number of alloy systems including\naluminium alloy A201
 and copper powders.\n
