DESCRIPTION:Venue: History of Art Lecture room\n\n*Abstract:*\nIn urban co
ntexts architects have always had to take into account the site on which t
hey were to build. How did they respond to this context and\, in the case
of cities sites with their existing historical strata and layering\, how d
id they respond to the remnants and remains of early buildings that they f
ound? Did the presence of earlier structures influence the design of build
ings and if so how can we establish this? This paper sets out the possibil
ities of using geophysical surveying in the context of Baroque Rome.\n\n*B
