 fluid - Jan-Bert Flor\, LEGI-CNRS Grenoble

DESCRIPTION:In this talk we discuss results obtained for a baroclinic fr
ont investigated in laboratory experiments and with DNS. A rotating tank i
s stably stratified with two layers of different density and shear is driv
en by a cyclonic rotating lid at the surface. We discuss new aspects of t
he frontal dynamics such as the existence (or not) of interfacial Ekman la
yers\, Holmboe and KH instability\, Rossby Kelvin instability and the appl
ication of the results to geophysical flows.
