DESCRIPTION:Significant current research effort is being expended in the a
 rea of intermetallic reactions in order to try and harness the energy rele
 ased in these reactions for a wide variety of applications. This talk will
  focus on a number of research projects that have been completed at the Fr
 acture and Shock Physics Group at the Cavendish into these materials\, wit
 h a focus on nickel-aluminium and aluminium-tungsten mixtures. Experiments
  were conducted to examine both the reactivity of these materials as well 
 as a range of mechanical behaviour in the unreacted state.
