DESCRIPTION:With the European Semester Presidency on the horizon and the r
 ecent appointment of the Partito Democratico’ leader Matteo Renzi as Hea
 d of Government\, there could hardly be a better time to discuss how the I
 talian Left and its foreign policy are changing. Established academics and
  young scholars from different fields of inquiry – from History to Inter
 national Relations\, from Cultural Studies to Economics – will come toge
 ther in Cambridge to discuss the theme in its historical perspective\, con
 temporary challenges as well as cultural aspects. \n\nAmong the topics to 
 be discussed: \n\n  Between Americanism and Anti-americanism: historica
 l and contemporary perspectives\n  Internationalism or a national way: 
 the Italian Left faces the world\n  European priorities of the Italian 
 Left: change or continuity? \n  Exit geopolitics? Strategic priorities 
 in and beyond the three circles\n  The Italian Left\, foreign policy
  and the use of force\n  Foreign policy and the politics of the Italian
  Left: (bridge over) troubled waters?\n  The Italian Left\, civil socie
 ty and foreign policy\n  Proposals for a ‘progressive’ reform of th
 e foreign policy machinery\n  The Italian Left and foreign policy in a 
 comparative perspective: insights from European cases\n\n\nAttendance is f
