DESCRIPTION:Tropical plants play an important role in the stratospheric ch
emistry by emitting methyl chloride and methyl bromide\, which are carrier
s of ozone-depleting haloges to the stratosphere. However\, the factors af
fecting the emissions of the methyl halides are not well known. Here\, I w
ill present some of our recent studies on methyl halide emissions in South
east Asian tropical forests\, and show that tropical plants not only produ
ce methyl halides\, but also consume them.
