DESCRIPTION:Professor John Searle (Berkeley) will give a public lecture  a
 s CRASSH Mellon Visiting Professor. The event is free to attend and no reg
 istration is required. \n\nJohn Searle is Willis S. and Marion Slusser Pro
 fessor of the Philosophy of Mind and Language at the University of Califor
 nia\, Berkeley.\n\nHe attended Wisconsin University and the University of 
 Oxford where he was awarded his MPhil. His work ranges broadly over philos
 ophical problems of mind and language. Recent books include The Mystery of
  Consciousness (1997)\, Mind\, Language and Society: Philosophy in the Rea
 l World (1998)\, Rationality in Action (2001)\, Mind (2004)\, and Liberté
  et Neurobiologie (2004). He teaches philosophy of mind\, philosophy of la
 nguage\, and philosophy of social science\; recent seminars topics include
  consciousness\, free will\, and rationality.\n\nHis numerous awards inclu
 de Puffendorf Medal\, Sweden\, 2006\; Mind and Brain Prize\, Italy\, 2006\
 ; National Humanities Medal\, USA 2004\; Jovellanos Prize\, Spain\, 2000\;
  Jean Nicod Prize\, France\, 2000\; Tasan Prize\, Korea\, 2000\; Distingui
